How Flotender Works
Click on a step below for additional details
Diversion Option
In the event of rain or freezing temperatures a 3-way valve allows for the inflowing greywater to be diverted back to the sewer.

Greywater Produced
Showers, washing machines and sinks can be connected. Greywater flows out of the building through a separate line.

Processed
The Flotender Greywater Processor removes debris from the greywater in preparation for reuse in drip irrigation.
Containment Option
If a pump timer is installed, the greywater is contained until a scheduled irrigation time when the greywater is pumped into the drip irrigation system.

Scheduled or Immediate Irrigation
If a pump timer is installed, based on a schedule, the pump will be activated and greywater will be pumped into the irrigation lines. If a pump timer is not installed, greywater will be immediately pumped into the drip irrigation system after filtration has taken place.

Potable Water is Added if Required
If insufficient greywater is produced to adequately irrigate, additional potable water can be added to the system automatically.

Greywater is Produced
Greywater is produced from a shower, sink, or washing machine. The greywater is routed into the Flotender Greywater Processor.
Greywater Plumbing
How Much Greywater Does Each Fixture Produce?
The greywater must be plumbed into a line separate from blackwater sources (toilet, kitchen sink). This separate greywater line must run to the Flotender Greywater Processor.
The amount of greywater product by each fixture will vary based on personal usage. Approximate usages are as follows (per use):
Sink: .25 / gallon
Shower: 25 gallons
Bathtub: 50 gallons
Washing Machine: 25 gallons
Optional Greywater Routing
The Flotender system includes a manual diversion valve which can re-route greywater back to the sewer or septic line during rainfall, freezing temperatures or for occasional system maintenance.
Dry Weather:
Greywater is routed to the Flotender Greywater Processor
Inclement Weather:
Greywater is diverted back to the sewer or septic line
Low Greywater Sub-Out?
The Flotender transfer station provides low elevation pumping to the inlet of the Greywater Processor.
Greywater is Processed
Once entering the Flotender Greywater Processor, the greywater is filtered through the primary 150-mesh filtration system which removes all debris from the greywater in preparation for irrigation.
Self-Cleaning Filter
The patented self-cleaning primary filter sprays inward on the primary filter, dislodging lint and debris.

Flotender Greywater Processor
Greywater is Optionally Contained for Scheduled Irrigation
Once the greywater has been filtered it drops down into the greywater containment reservoir where it can optionally remain until the irrigation system is activated. (feature only available if pump timer is installed)
If a pump timer is not installed, greywater will be immediately pumped into the drip irrigation system after filtration has taken place.

If a pump timer is installed, based on a schedule, the pump will be activated and greywater will be pumped into the irrigation lines.
Potable Water is Added if Required
If more greywater is required to irrigate than what is produced by the connected fixtures, potable water (or stored rainwater) can be automatically added to complete the zone watering as needed.
